Power Amplifier

What is a Power Amplifier?

A high-power amplifier that drives speaker loads strongly and steadily all night — the “muscle” of the sound system.

What is a Power Amplifier?

A Power Amplifier amplifies the signal from the mixer/DSP enough to drive the speakers. The amp’s power and stability decide whether the speakers can “hold up” all night.

An amp must match the speakers’ impedance and power (especially subs). Amps with built-in DSP also process the signal and protect the speakers right at the amp.

Pros & cons

  • Drives speaker loads strongly and steadily
  • Runs reliably all night
  • DSP-integrated models protect speakers
  • Matched right for subs that need force
  • Wrong impedance/power match harms speakers
  • Runs hot, needs rack ventilation
  • Invest in the right type per speaker system

Amps sit in the equipment rack, power-matched to each speaker cluster (especially subs). NHK Stage picks amps with enough headroom so the system runs strong, safe and durable.
