What is SPI?

The standard for directly controlling smart LED pixels — the “language” the pixel strip/light IC understands.

What is a SPI Protocol?

SPI is a signal standard that directly controls smart LED pixels (strips/lights with ICs like WS2812, SK6812…). Each pixel receives its colour data and passes it on to the next pixel.

The controller/decoder converts DMX/Art-Net into SPI so the pixel strip understands it. SPI transmits over short distances, so decoders must be placed sensibly along the pixel system.
